Mixed media Gel Plate and Cyanotype Printing Workshop with Maisie-Jane
held at Chenrezig Art Studio Workshop Eudlo QLD.

TECHNIQUES :
In this workshop I will explore both some simple cyanotype printing and gel plate printing – participants will be able use either or both methods. suited to both the beginner and those with experience in either print methods, we’ll experiment and have fun combining the techniques. I will have a range of gel plates available for this session.
In the morning session we will share the essence of the methods. Cyanotype uses light sensitised paper to create the image, which takes time, so in the morning session we will prepare the images to expose and put them out in daylight to develop so they can be worked on in the afternoon
The afternoon session will allow more time for participants to experiment with the techniques learned in the morning. We will explore how we could combine gel printing with cyanotype images.
We’ll have tim4 a bit deeper with our experiments with gel plate print methods, exploring monochrome, ghost prints, layering and the comparative results from different paint brands and paper.
When you apply please state your previous printmaking experience. Then the sessions can be best prepared for the group. In these two sessions we will mostly explore techniques not covered in the basic workshops in 2024. However sessions can be tailored on the day to suit attendees.
Everything needed for you to learn and use the process will be provided. However you may wish to pick a few botanical samples to play with. Soft smallish leaves work well. I provide a selection of stencils to play with. ork well. You can also bring some thin stencils.
Both cyanotype and gel plate printing ar4 easy to learn art printing techniques requiring no prior experience in print methods, or indeed art. Both are monoprinting processes – that is every individual print is unique.
The spontaneity of these methods allow – indeed encourage – explorations and it is good to “expect the unexpected” when producing images. Once the basic techniques are acquired many possibilities open up. Most of all it is fun!

YOUR TEACHER:
From 2023 to 2026 I have taught small introductory workshops in gel-plate printing methods both in Queensland and Bali. This will be my sixth offering at Chenrezig Art Studios.
Since retiring from full time work as craft maker post-2018, I have explored a diverse range of mediums, including mixed-media on paper, acrylic on canvas, collage, digital art, and mixed-media.
In my work I like to explore allowing the work itself to develop in unexpected ways, and for the viewer and artist to allow meaning to be an emergent property. During 2025-26 I have focused on creating mixed-media works both large scale on canvas and smaller print-centred paper works using cyanotype extensively. Exploring the potential of art as a healing modality and practice is central to my project.
I am excited to share this creative time with you.

To maximise learning, spaces are limited to 8 persons, and a firm commitment when booking is requested. Cancellation policies – free cancellation up to 7 days before event. 1-6 days before – 50% refund. No refunds for last day cancellations or no shows.
The cost of the workshop is $95.00 which covers the two 2 hour sessions and all materials. A $10 discount is offered to previous participants.

A lovely vegetarian lunch is available at the Big Love cafe between 12noon- 1pm. Cost $17.50 for adults, under 12 years old $10.
Dinner also available Saturday evening 4.30pm – 6.30pm often with live music.
